2021 Marketing Trends and Changes

Going into 2021 in lockdown means the continuation of the same marketing trends from 2020. We just can’t seem to get rid of 2020, can we?!

For digital marketers, this is good news!

People are spending more time than ever before at home, and what do you find yourself doing at night when you sit down after your working day? I bet you are on your phone, aimlessly scrolling through social media! This gives you a good indication of what your target customers are also doing. While lockdown won’t last forever, I do believe the trends we have seen with social media engagement up 61% and adults spending more and more time online are here to stay. This means your marketing strategy needs to move from traditional to digital, if it hasn’t already.

It’s got a lot to do with the world in general becoming more digital but the work from home message has played a huge part in the increase in online activity. Lots of businesses have already announced that working from home is here to stay after seeing the opportunity to save money on office space and monthly running costs. Less time commuting inevitably means more time at home. The effect this will have on traditional marketing methods will be huge because…

  1. People will have more time and therefore are likely to reach for their phone more often.

  2. Less people will be out and about so targeting customers through traditional marketing methods will be almost impossible.

I’d go as far as saying that there is now no option, digital marketing is the future for your business.

What can we expect to see in 2021? 1. Huge growth in e-commerce as high streets remain emptier than ever.

2. The importance of effective Social Media Marketing will become apparent as brands try to stand out from the crowd.

3. Content Marketing will become more popular, and widely understood.

4. Companies who were hit hard during the pandemic will decrease their marketing budget, and look for more efficient ways to use smaller amounts of money 5. Increase in voice search.

6. Video content has been on the rise for several years but the introduction of TikTok and IG Reels will push video content further than it’s ever gone before.
