No marketing strategy would be viable without content which poses the all important question as to what that content should be. It's easy to post about your service with a link to your website but can I let you in on a little secret?...............
This will not produce long term results for you.
In a product based business, it's much more acceptable to create most of your content around what you are selling. In a service based business, you really need to be more creative. This is where Content Marketing comes in!
Never heard of content marketing before? Don't worry, I'll explain!
"A type of marketing that involves the creation and sharing of online material (such as videos, blogs, and social media posts) that does not explicitly promote a brand but is intended to stimulate interest in its products or services." - Oxford Dictionary
Now you know what content marketing is, I bet you are wondering why you would want to spend time creating online material which does not explicitly promote what you are selling. Wouldn't that be a waste of time?
The answer is NO!! It's not a waste of your time and here's why
1. Builds Trust
If you are sharing useful information relating to your industry, people can see you know your stuff! After seeing this type of content, there is more chance these people will choose you should they require the service you offer - you've shown them exactly what you know!
2. Brand awareness
If your content is valuable and sharable, you will be more likely to get engagement and good reach on your posts which increases your brand awareness.
Sharing blogs relating to your industry is a great piece of content marketing which in return will help you rank higher in web searches. Consistent new content, people staying on your website for longer and the use of lots of keywords are all important ranking factors.
4. Leads - high quality
Content marketing attracts the people who are actively looking for your services. These by default are much higher quality leads.
5. Inbound Marketing
The average Person today is inundated with up to 2000 outbound marketing interruptions per day and is figuring out more and more creative ways to block them out, including caller ID, spam filtering etc. (Hubspot)
Content marketing is a form of inbound marketing, making your brand discoverable to people searching rather than becoming one of the outbound interuptions.
Content marketing is also shareable! No one needs to be hugely invested in your coaching business to share a motivational quote you have posted. Always keep this in mind when creating content for this purpose.
7. Industry expert
The sharing of your knowledge allows you to position yourself as an industry expert as you are not just telling people you know about your industry, you are showing them by sharing exactly what you know! Take Social Media Manager's content as an example, after looking at the content, you'll see I know a thing or 2 about marketing
8. Customer Relationships
Helps middle and bottom of funnel leads covert, and helps build strong relationships with existing customers who keep up to date with your socials by showing them you are ahead of the game and up to date with industry trends.
9. Improve Conversions
Website visitors you get through content marketing are much more likely to be genuinely interested in your services and therefore more likely to convert. There will always be people who come on for a nosey, but if you are using content marketing, you can be sure a good number of your visitors have come looking for your services.
10. Brand Voice
If your logo is not on your content, would your audience still be able to tell it came from your brand? Content marketing gives you so much to post about! If you consistently use the same style, colours, wording and layout, you'll grow your brand voice!
Give it a try and see what happens! Content marketing is definitely not a quick fix, you need to be in it for the long haul - but it's soooooo worth it!
